Resource Management
Support Clerks (RMS CLKS) provide clerical, administrative
and financial support for all military activities. This
career field, because it is one of the largest occupations
in the military, provides scope for a variety of employment,
both in working environment and tasks assigned.

What They do - Administration
- Draft,
type and proof-read correspondence, documentation and
records
- Operate
typewriters, calculators, photocopiers, word processors
and office computers
- Maintain
centralized filing systems
- Receive,
distribute, dispatch and control correspondence and other
mail
- Amend
and control publications
- Maintain
personnel records; organize, receive and dispatch service
documents and prepare inputs for the computerized Personnel
Management Information System
- Interpret
military regulations and orders
- Advise
personnel on administrative procedures and assist with
the completion of required documentation
What They do - Finance
- Maintain
individual financial accounts by preparing and processing
documents that relate to pay, including computer deductions
such as income tax, insurance, and superannuation.
- Provide
accounting services related to movement and travel claims
by assisting individuals in preparing claims, advising
personnel on financial entitlements and verifying claims.
- Obtain
and disburse cash, prepare and issue cheques and maintain
ledgers to
account for public money.
- Process
invoices for payment from public funds by checking them
for correctness, verifying arithmetic computations and
maintaining auditable records.
- Maintain
ledgers and prepare statements of accounts for military
messes, canteens, clubs and retail outlets in the Canadian
Forces.
- Perform
internal audits and produce verification reports.
- Operate
office equipment such as typewriters, adding machines,
calculators, photocopiers and computers.
Working Environment
RMS CLKs are normally
employed indoors in a comfortable office environment. RMS
CLKs may also be employed with army field units or on board
a ship. Under
field conditions personnel may work from a tent or a mobile
van and may be exposed to operational situations that could
require them to perform as a member of a combat unit.
On board ship RMS CLKs are required to stand duty
watches, participate in damage control and the ship's cleaning
and maintenance duties in addition to their occupation related
duties.
Qualifications and Interests
RMS CLKs must be highly
dependable, tactful, discreet and mentally alert.
They must be capable of accurately performing repetitive
clerical tasks and be willing to work long hours to meet
deadlines. They should be flexible and able to adapt to a variety of locations,
conditions and management systems. A good memory, patience
and an interest in working with people are also desirable.
Candidates for this military occupation (MOC) should possess
a sound education, preferably junior or senior matriculation.
They should be interested in dealing with the public,
working with numbers, objects and forms and enjoy detailed,
organized work. They must be reliable, responsible and totally
honest.

Advanced MOC and Specialty Training Courses
Personnel who demonstrate
the required ability and ambition will undertake advanced
MOC training through formal courses or on-the-job training
as they progress in their careers.

Career Opportunities
RMS CLKs are employed
at all Canadian Forces bases in Canada and overseas.
In addition, employment opportunities are available
for selected individuals to serve at embassy locations in
countries where Canada has a military attache.
They may also be employed in support of medical and
legal organizations, recruiting offices, aircraft data control
and personnel selection functions within the Canadian Forces.
Opportunities exist for promotion and advanced training
for well motivated and hard working members.
