12 Service Battalion
is a combat service support unit. It is able to fight in
a defensive role as well as provide the vital logistical
support to sustain the operations of the other units in
39 Canadian Brigade Group, Canada's Army in British Columbia.
The Battalion
The Battalion provides combat service support to 39 Canadian
Brigade Group. This includes transportation, supply, maintenance,
clerical, food service, and financial support. To train
for our role we are organized into Headquarters
Company and a Close Support
Company.
Close Support Company is composed of a company headquarters,
a Supply and Transport Platoon,
and a Maintenance Platoon.
Our soldiers come from all walks of life right here in
Vancouver. We also have some Regular force members. Many
of our soldiers have seen service in the former Yugoslavia,
Cyprus, the Middle East, and Germany.
We also have two Army Cadet units and one Air Force Cadet
unit located in the Armoury.
Cadets are not soldiers, they are part of an organization
dedicated to developing citizenship and leadership among
young men and women aged 12 to 18 years of age.
History
12 Service Battalion was originally formed from members
of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, the Royal Canadian
Ordnance Corps, the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical
Engineers, the Royal Canadian Pay Corps, the Canadian Provost
Corps, the Canadian Intelligence Corps, and the Canadian
Women's Army Corps. Many of these units' memorabilia is
located in our museum. For more details about our proud
history, check out our Historical
Chronicles Page.
The Militia
The Canadian Armed Forces
Reserve is a large, nation wide, organization that allows
you to transfer without a break in service, or a loss of
seniority, to a unit in the same area as your residence.
I've seen enough. How can I join?
